What's It like to live in Mexborough?

We asked the people of Mexborough to what it's like to live in the town,

1. What's it like to live in Mexborough on a scale of 1-5? 1 being really bad and 5 being excellent.

2. How much do you think Mexborough has changed over the years on a scale of 1-5? 1 being nothing and 5

being a lot.

3. What do you like best about living in Mexborough?

4. Is there anything you don't like about living in Mexborough?

5. What's your best memory?

6. What do you feel Mexborough needs most?

Christine Fletcher:

1) Unfortunately i would say 3.

2) And again I'm sorry to say 5

3) It is where i was born, my sons are here and my grandchildren, and there are still nice people from here who I have known for years.

4) People who don't appreciate our once thriving, homely and safe little town.

5) My childhood days growing up here with my parents, family, old friends, neighbors and a well happy and friendly community.

6) It would be nice to get it back to how it once was and i know plenty of people are trying, but if everyone doesn't appreciate it for what it was and could be I'm afraid sadly it wont improve, i think we are the forgotten town. so very sad...

Jill Arkley-jevons:

1) 4 2) 5 3) is the people or most of them 4) is the lack of a good shopping centre 5) is a good range of shops, cinema or other recreational facilities 6) There have been too many cuts in spending by the council and Mexborough needs a Parish Council

Katie Manchester:

1) 3 2) 5 3) The close proximity to my family & my husbands family 4) Some of the people who have been housed in Mexborough who have no respect for us or our property 5) Mexborough Christmas Carnival as a little girl on Pitt Street Schools float 6) An hospital with the facilities it once had and a clean high street.

Beryl Smith:

1) 4. 2) 5 3) The people 4) Not enough facilities for communal entertainment. 5) I have lived in Mexborough all my life 81 years so many happy memories

David Wilkinson:

1) 4 2) 3 – as another mover from down south 17 years back, most of the changes have made the two places more alike: high house prices, loss of local distinguishing features, interference from abrasive left-wing local council 3) Rural surroundings and none of the desperate big city crush and rush 4) Loss of so many local shops, pubs and amenities, even in just the last decade 5) Local nightlife in places now lost 6) Conservation of what we still have and local bodies (non-government) to encourage their use All for what it's worth from having lived only a third of my life here

Shannon Jayne Wilkinson:

1) 3 2) 5 3) from where I use to live everything was close by that I needed e.g hospital, doctors, dentist etc.. 4 ) they're not many good shops they're all mostly pubs, charity shops and betting places.. 5) Not sure to be honest 6) I think Mexborough needs better shops, Maybe some entertainment place like a cinema, Arcade or something for people to do and go to..
